Weather. The "Ice Saints" are marked by great mildness and a high risk of thunderstorms.

Farmers and Sunday gardeners alike can breathe a sigh of relief: the risk of frost will be non-existent during the "Ice Saints," celebrated on May 11, 12, and 13. Traditionally, this period is associated with the last days when frosts in the plains are still possible.

There were also some light frosts this Saturday morning in Moselle and the Ardennes... but that was before the Ice Saints! Temperatures actually climbed very high a few hours later.

This ancient and well-established belief is becoming increasingly rare with climate change.

Sometimes over 25°C this Sunday

This year, we'll be a long way from that. On Saint Mamertus' Day—the first of the three saints, followed by Pancras on May 12 and Servatius on the 13—it will be between 9°C and 14°C at daybreak, with temperatures as high as 16°C along the Mediterranean coast. Even the most cold-sensitive regions will be completely spared even the slightest risk of morning frost. In the afternoon, highs will be close to seasonal norms, between 18 and 22°C in most regions. The thermometer could climb to 25°C in the northeast of the country.

The heat will bring a risk of thunderstorms across a large part of the country: Météo France has already placed three-quarters of the departments on yellow alert for this Sunday. Thunderstorms are expected to be numerous, but not particularly violent—even though it often remains difficult to properly anticipate this type of phenomenon.

Monday will be the wettest day of the Ice Saints, with light rain expected in a band stretching from Normandy to the Italian border. But overall, the weather will remain dry, and temperatures will remain high throughout the week, leading to a warm and very sunny weekend.
